(C&O歴史協会のBachmann製品説明文を引用) | C&O's famous LCL Box cars were certainly an interesting "adventure" for the railway as it tried to save the small-shipment freight business as highway trucks quickly eroded it. The C&O's mechanical department took 100 older cars, rebuilt them, and painted them in a striking scheme in 1956. At the same time, the company was issuing special LCL timetables and brochures. However, the attempt to stem the tide was unsuccessful and by 1962 all LCL service was eliminated on C&O. These cars then went into service handling normal freight, but kept their distinctive paint scheme until their retirement in the 1970s. They certainly make a great show in a model train of the post-1956 era. (quoted from C&O Historical Society's site) |
