Tokyo Disneyland Western River Railroad, No.28 Missouri
ウエスタン・リバー鉄道は東京ディズニーランドのアトラクションの一つで、園内周回の遊園地の乗り物。軌間762mm、本物の蒸気機関車で運転されている。4台は全て協三工業で製造されたオイル焚き。20、25、28、53号機はそれぞれ、Mississippi、Rio Grande、Missouri、Coloradoと名付けられている。25、28、53号機の3台は1982年製であるが、20号機は91年の増備でデザインが微妙に異なる。メーカー完成時のトミー提供写真が"とれいん"誌1983年1月号p49にある。Wikipedia日本語版これらのプロトタイプとされた機関車はDenver Rio Grande鉄道のBaldwin社1871年製造"Montezuma"で、5/8に縮小されているというが、3フィートの軌間を2フィート半とするので、5/6のはずである。実物と比較すれば、車輪径などのバランスが大幅に異なっている。ちなみにモンテズマは、アステカ帝国最後の王。
プラスチック・キットは、1983年の開園と同時にスポンサーとなったトミーから発売されたもので、縮尺1:45、軌間16.5mmの完全なディスプレーモデルである。ロッドが固定のため、動輪は回転しない。また、デカールが添付されている25号機Rio Grande用に加えて、車番板と製造番号板は28、53号機用も添付され、ここでは28号機用を取り付けた。
トミーからは別に1/80でも、Nゲージの線路を走行可能とした動力付が客車とセットで発売された。

The Western River Railroad is 2 foot 6 inch gauge, operating genuine steam locomotives despite an attraction of Tokyo Disneyland. Kyosan Industries, Japan manufactured all four No.20, 25, 28 & 53, named Mississippi(blue), Rio Grande(orange), Missouri(green) and Colorado(red), all oil burners. No.25, 28 & 53 were made in 1982. No.20 were added in 1991, is delicately different in a design. The Tomy offering photographs at the time of completion of the manufacturer are on the page 49 of January 1983 issue, "Train" magazine.
It is said that these locomotives were reduced to 5/8 from Montezuma made by Baldwin in 1871 of the Denver Rio Grande Railroad. But wheel diameter is too small.
The plastic kit is scale 1:45, a complete display model of 16.5mm gauge, released by Tomy (presently Takara Tomy) who became a sponsor with opening of the park in 1983. Even 1/80, 9mm gauge model was released by same Tomy, as powered with passenger cars, that could run on N gauge tracks.
Because rods of this 1/45 model are fixed, the driving wheels do not turn. I wrote down a story that I made up with limonene adhesive in my blog.

Hello Steve. It is very rare that this model is exhibited at eBay. I have sometimes seen it at the Japanese Yahoo Auction, price 4,000-7,000 yen (US$40-70).
